Welcome to PawPrints Spay/Neuter Assistance Program,
or P-SNAP for short.

Thank you for caring enough about your companion animal to have him or her spayed or neutered. It’s the right thing to do to promote a long and healthy life.

Some things you should know before proceeding:
This program is intended to help pet owners in our service area who cannot afford the cost of spaying or neutering their own companion animals. If you are looking for help to pay for a stray or unowned cat, visit nca.chico.org/help.

Our service area includes all of Butte County and areas outside of Butte County within 20 miles of Chico. If you live outside of our service area, please contact your local animal shelter or animal control for spay/neuter resources. Applications from outside of our service area will not be considered.

Here’s how the process works and steps you need to follow to receive a voucher:
  1. We expect applicants to respond truthfully to questions regarding their financial situation. This is imperative if our program is going to continue to help people who are truly in need of assistance.
  2. Below, you will see a price chart which provides the names of the veterinarians who participate in our program and the cost of spaying/neutering at their facilities. These prices are considerably less than the cost of the same services at regular veterinary clinics. Consider carefully whether you can pay the entire cost at the given rates.
  3. If you can pay the full amount provided on this price chart, you will still need a voucher in order to get the discounted rate provided to our program.
  4. If you are unable to pay the full cost provided on the price chart, explain why you are unable.
  5. Before you apply for a voucher, please call our participating vets to find out who can get you in the soonest. If you are not in a hurry, then choose a vet based on whatever criteria is important to you.
  6. Fill out the online form, below, completely. A volunteer will review your application. If you skipped any fields, your application will not be processed.
  7. You will receive a confirmation email which may also ask you for more information or clarification of answers you provided. If you don’t receive an email, you may have provided a non-working email address or you are outside of our service area.  If you receive an email requesting information, please respond within 72 hours. Your delay may result in a denial of service but will certainly delay the issuance of a voucher.
  8. If your application is approved and you indicated that you have a printer, you will receive another email with a voucher as an attachment.
  9. If you don’t have a printer, we can mail you a voucher, so it’s important that you provide your correct address.

The map below is our service area. The blue boundary is Chico; the red boundary is our service area. If you are outside of the red line, you are not in our service area.

The veterinarians that currently accept our vouchers are: PAWS of Oroville, Walker St. Vet (Orland), Butte Humane Society (Chico), and Gridley Vet Hospital (Gridley). Here are the discounted prices they have arranged for us:

NOTE: The prices for PAWS of Oroville are their normal prices. We do not receive discounted prices from PAWS of Oroville.

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE VET WITHOUT A VOUCHER FIRST. Calling us while you are at the vet and expecting us to generate an immediate voucher is not an acceptable way to receive a voucher from us. Please fill out the form and wait for your voucher to arrive via email before making your appointment. Please give us at least 48 hours to get the voucher ready for you.
Once you have received a voucher:
  1. Please do not go to the veterinarian of your choice without first receiving a voucher. You must present a voucher at the time of your appointment in order to receive our financial assistance.
  2. Once you receive a voucher, your choice of veterinarian cannot be changed.
  3. Additional costs such as extra vaccinations, e-collars, or take-home medications are your responsibility. Be prepared to pay the vet for these at the time of your appointment. Some veterinarians may require additional procedures such as a pain injection or antibiotics and may require bloodwork, especially for older animals. These costs are also the responsibility of the voucher holder.
  4. If you have chosen PAWS of Oroville as the vet, we highly recommend that you follow PAWS of Oroville on Facebook because they often have last minute appointments open and will share updates on their Facebook page.
  5. These vouchers are non-transferable. The vouchers are issued to the name provided on the online form. Veterinary offices may ask for I.D. and will deny services if it does not match the name on the voucher.
  6. Please be sure to show up for your appointment at the vet’s office. If you don’t or you are putting our program’s reputation and relationship with the vet at risk.
